The Dreams of Nicholas Young: The 11-year old stowaway

Quitting school or trying to get away from home seems best for children with mental problems. But the fact that an 11-year old stowed away aboard a ship for three years?

Nicholas Young didn't thought much about what would happen next. All he wanted was to escape from the clutches of the evil butcher (who beats Nick everyday). Basically, all he wanted was to escape from his previous life and start a new one. Well that seems reasonable. If you have a real harsh life, you might be prompted to get away from it and start a new one from scratch. Thinking about that sounds easy, but in fact it requires a lot of thinking about it. But that was not the case for Nick. After escaping from the butcher, he basically wanted to get as far as possible from the place. And that came with an idea of being stowed away aboard the Endeavour without much thinking at all.

Nick's dream was to get out of the pit he was stuck in and explore the world. He knew about England, but not about distant lands occupied with cannibals and friendly natives (not). So for an 11-year old who was no one to tell him what to do, exploring the world for free sounds adventurous and exciting. But that doesn't sound flowery anymore after encountering countless of deaths on Batavia.

As for his goals in life, well, not quite shabby about that. He's just a kid, after all. He might become anything he wants in the future, but for now, his main objective is to get the h*ll out of England as soon as possible, as long as possible, and as far as possible. Oh and later on in his life he went along with Joseph Banks on an expedition to Iceland.
